Meet the Team

Mike Darracott

Managing Director
Mike is the Don Corleone of MGISS – the Head of the family so to speak. A qualified Engineering Surveyor (BEng), Mike has spent 23 years in the geospatial industry, working with global geospatial technology manufacturers and national mapping agencies. He has acquired a deep knowledge of managing large asset networks and the associated spatial data challenges. In 2014, he was made an offer he couldn’t refuse and started his own business at the height of the financial crisis. (That’s why we call him the Godfather 😉) When he’s not overseeing the smooth running of MGISS, Mike loves sport – doing it, watching it, encouraging other people to try it – and promoting a balanced lifestyle. Just like the Don, Mike says his favourite thing in the world is his family and one day hopes to leave the gun and take the cannolli on a long road-trip around the world.

Kate Darracott

Director and Office Manager
Kate is the Jedi Master of getting stuff done!  Often the first voice you hear when contacting MGISS, you will always be welcomed with a cheery and efficient response.  In a former life, Kate was a qualified Paediatric Nurse and spent over a decade looking after sick children, along with her own extensive brood!  A few years were also spent in a clinical research role, the highlight of which was a published paper into Oxygen Saturation levels in Children with Cystic Fibrosis – truly inspiring Kate!  Outside of work, Kate is all about family, but has a love of travel and a desire to “road-trip” around New Zealand, Canada and the United States.  Whilst dreaming of this, Kate is most often found happily pottering in the garden (normally with a Gin and Tonic for company – as long as the Frogs don’t jump out at her!)

Nathan Ward

Geospatial Sales Manager
Nathan joined MGISS at the beginning of 2019 as our Geospatial Sales Manager based just South of London. A qualified RICS Chartered Surveyor, Nathan’s accolades remind us of Liverpool’s trophy cupboard there are so many. He’s spent 25 years in the survey industry and at Leica Geosystems has helped provide many millions of pounds worth of Surveying and GIS equipment to many different clients and customers over the years. Outside of work, Nathan enjoys being active participating in different sports especially involving rackets and water (Sounds a bit dangerous…) although doesn’t have time to do this often with a busy family life. He loves his newfound hobby of road cycling and can be seen at the weekend, clad in his lycra going up and down the Surrey Hills. His dream would be to ride in the Tour de France but more realistically, being healthy & active and spending time with his favourite thing – his family – make everything worthwhile.

Darius Mirdamadi

GIS Consultant
Darius Mirdamadi joined the expanding MGISS Professional Services Team at the start of 2019 as a GIS consultant.  A qualified Geologist, Darius then specialised in GIS and completed a Masters at Leeds University.  His GIS expertise and knowledge is certainly “rock solid” as a result!  Darius also has significant experience of Geospatial technology integration, and spent many years in sales support roles, including time training GNSS in the Gold mines of Armenia.  That’s a significant upgrade from working at the coal-face Darius!  More recent years have been spent supporting large GIS-centric contracts in the Highways sector, and utilising GIS in increasingly innovative ways to solve problems.  Darius used to play guitar in a punk rock band (there’s a recurring geological theme here) but with a young family the leather jacket and dodgy haircut have been replaced with hill-walking, much gentler guitar playing, and a love of cheese apparently.  Darius would love to visit his wider family back in Iran one day, albeit he believes he could still qualify for National Service so is keeping a low profile for the moment.  His favourite thing in the world is his young son, whom I’m sure will at some point decide to follow his dad’s “Rock-God” phase, and whether that’s Geology or Punk remains to be seen…

Dave George

Technical Lead
What Dave doesn’t know about GIS isn’t worth knowing!  Steeped in both COTS and Opensource development and database design, Dave has a BSc in GIS and 15 years industry expertise with utility and infrastructure asset owners in development, and Geospatial technology providers, enabling seamless data management and achieving massive efficiency and cost savings within enterprise organisations.  Continuing what appears to be theme at MGISS, Dave loves the great outdoors – with a particular passion for Skiing (as opposed to Snowboarding as Dave is certainly a purist on the slopes!)    His dream is to travel around the world one day – hopefully not on skis – and no doubt sample worldwide cuisine as he certainly enjoys his exotic cuisine (as long as its not Tuna!)

Ben Smith

GIS Analyst
Ben joined MGISS in 2015 almost straight from Sheffield Hallam University having gained a 1st in Geography (BSc) and a solid grounding in GIS.  Ben quickly established himself as the goto hardware and integration technical expert in the business, working with MGISS customers, suppliers and partners in equal measure and with great success.  Ben is growing into a capable technical consultant and has a committed approach to GIS and Geospatial technologies.  Often found creating new “how to” technical videos, Ben loves being in front of the camera (this is absolutely not true) and being onsite with customers (this is absolutely true). Outside of work, Ben has a keen interest in NFL (American Football) and would love to one day see the Aurora Borealis in Iceland (Great band – cold venue so take a blanket Ben!)

Luke O' Callaghan

Digital Marketing Assistant
Luke joined MGISS in late 2017 as a Digital Marketing Apprentice and has rapidly become a Star in the making! Luke is making his mark on all outgoing digital and web content and can turn an idea into polished digital end product in minutes – also soaking up the world of SEO and analytics (a dark art to most) and making himself indispensable by the day. One of several Liverpool Football Club fans at MGISS (Allez, Allez, Allez!), Luke enjoys matchdays at Anfield, has completed work experience with the LFC media team, plays football for Warrington Town JFC, and is a qualified Liverpool FA Referee (this will come in handy at the Christmas Parties and Staff Meetings!). A really grounded young man with a great future, he is modest and doesn’t see his successes. In fact, his quoted achievement is coming 3rd in a Year 9 Sports Day Skipping Race.
