Evolving with Ordnance Survey: MGISS Expands OS Services and Solutions

It’s been ten years since MGISS began to leverage Ordnance Survey (OS) data to deliver geospatial solutions and OS services to a wealth of clients and industries, from water and utilities, to highways and construction, to environment and beyond.
Over those ten years, this growing relationship with Ordnance Survey has not only allowed us to provide accurate, reliable and tailored mapping and location intelligence, but to add ever-increasing value to our clients and to OS as a trusted partner.
Now, in 2025, as the MGISS and OS partnership continues to strengthen and evolve, our OS services have strengthened and evolved too, meaning that the breadth of our offerings has expanded.
What does this mean for our customers?
With Ordnance Survey’s industry-leading datasets, customers can access:
- OS MasterMap Topography Layer – Detailed, authoritative mapping data for accurate asset and infrastructure management. We deliver this data as Vector Tile Packages which are optimised specifically for mobile use, using less storage space and minimising downloads, which helps reduce device storage needs and data costs
- AddressBase – Enabling precise location intelligence for asset management and service delivery.
- VectorMap Local – High-resolution mapping to support regional planning and operational efficiency.
With MGISS and our OS associate partnership, customers can now access the added value of the following services:
- ETL Services (Extract, Transfer & Load) – We help convert and move OS data between common geospatial formats, relational databases, and even lightweight file formats used in field tools and mobile apps. Whether you’re working with shapefiles, geodatabases, or cloud storage, we ensure your data flows seamlessly across systems.
- Geoprocessing Services – Including cookie-cutting, feature extraction and attribute filtering, our geoprocessing services tailor complex datasets into precise, usable formats that align with your needs. For example, if you only need MasterMap data for a specific area or asset type, we’ll trim it down and deliver exactly what you need—nothing more, nothing less.
- Caching OS Data (for Web & Mobile use) – This dramatically improves performance and user experience for field users—tiles load faster, and data consumes less bandwidth, which is vital when working in poor signal areas
And now, the latest dataset available:
- National Geographic Database (NGD) – A continuously updated, feature-based system that provides greater attribution, improved connectivity, and enhanced data accessibility.
By 2027, NGD is expected to replace legacy datasets such as OS MasterMap Topography Layer and elements of AddressBase. As a thematic, structured dataset, NGD allows users to work with specific categories — like buildings, transport, or water — rather than being tied to purchasing and working with a full dataset.
As an OS Partner, MGISS provides expert support in leveraging NGD data for applications across all sectors—ensuring our customers stay ahead in an evolving geospatial landscape. Find out more, here.
Since becoming an Ordnance Survey Associate Partner with visibility on the OS Partner Network site, MGISS has been able to increase our offering, as well as gaining visibility and credibility within the industry. This development unlocks new opportunities to connect with organisations that require authoritative mapping and data services, helping us to expand our customer base and drive business growth. It means we can do more of what we’re great at—and support those who need it!
With enhanced access to OS developments like NGD and leveraging the power of OS from a stronger partner standpoint, we can continue to innovate, offering tailored solutions that push the boundaries of geospatial capabilities. It also reinforces our ability to collaborate with OS and other industry leaders, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of technological advancements across all sectors.
Having met key criteria to be recognised as a trusted and active contributor within the OS Partner Network and demonstrated a commitment to using OS data effectively and to the integrity of data-truth and the needs of clients, (including returning royalties for licensed data usage) we have strengthened our commercial and strategic relationship with OS.
As we look ahead through the remainder of 2025 and beyond, this milestone is yet another mark of exciting growth and opportunity, both for MGISS, our partner network, and our clients. With our evolved services, we can deliver greater value, continue to innovate, and look forward to a future of further achievements and growth.
