Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park Authority reflects on MGISS GIS consultancy support

Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park Authority has shared positive feedback following a recent GIS consultancy project delivered by MGISS.

The project came at a time of transition for the Authority’s GIS team, following team shifts and with future planning becoming increasingly important ahead of the GIS Manager’s upcoming retirement. The organisation wanted to better understand how the team currently functions, how it connects with the wider business, and how its skills could be used and recognised more effectively across the National Park.

David, Head of Service at Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park Authority, explained that the work was designed to review the role of the GIS team and support planning for the years ahead.

“Our Head of Service tasked me with reviewing the GIS team and how they function and connect with the rest of our business,” David said. “More specifically, it was to understand how we could better use the team’s skills, be recognised for the work they carry out throughout the park and assist with planning for what the team looks like in a few years’ time, especially with the imminent retirement of our GIS manager.”

Once the project began in earnest, David described the process as “easy and natural”, highlighting the level of understanding and expertise brought by MGISS consultants.

“What stood out for me was the level of understanding and expertise that the MGISS team brought with them,” he said.

The consultancy has already helped David gain a clearer understanding of the GIS team’s role, particularly as someone who does not come from a GIS background. Colleagues also commented on how easy MGISS was to speak to throughout the process, reflecting the importance of making technical expertise accessible across an organisation.

“So far, yes,” David said, when asked whether the work had made a positive impact. “I specifically feel that this has helped me understand the role of the GIS team better than I had previously.”

He added that he would happily recommend MGISS for this type of consultancy work, and looked forward to working together again in the future.

“The level of expertise in the field and the ease with which it was put across really stood out, and we hope to speak with MGISS again for potential consultancy  in the future”
